The Manitoba Legislative Library, a branch of the Department of Sports, Culture, and Heritage, is looking for a Collection Development Librarian who will contribute to the selection and acquisition of books and other library materials for the Legislative Library.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent post-graduate studies and experience related to library and information sciences may be considered.
  • Experience working with current library technology in the area of acquisitions, serials control, or cataloguing.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize workload effectively and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with team members and work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong political acumen with ability to work with confidential information and diplomacy.
Desired:
  • Experience conducting promotional and outreach work for libraries or library collections.
  • Recent library experience in collection development.
  • Experience with conservation and preservation of library materials.
Duties:

Reporting to the Head, Reference Services, the Collection Development Librarian contributes to the selection and acquisition of books and other library materials. Duties include contributing and selecting to the acquisition of materials and organization of ongoing special projects; cataloging new and existing publications; and performing other duties as required.
