About the role:

The Mechanical Design Engineer applies proven abilities to the design of Building System Solutions (BSS) projects as part of a multi-disciplined project team and as directed by the Team Leader. Essentially, the engineer will layout, and design (via Solidworks) HVAC systems, and Fire Packages.

These systems will be taken from concept design or specific customer requirements and delivered using computer aided design technology.

This role is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Please note this position is for ‘In-Office’.

Some Travel is expected to sites (10%). Must be able to travel to USA.

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Understanding project scope and specification,
  • Developing 2D guidance drawings, 3D assemblies, sub-assemblies and details, associated manufacturing drawings, bills of material, calculations, purchase specifications, production information, test information, as-built drawings, etc.
  • Developing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs).
  • Adherence to project milestone review and approval process.
  • Adherence to project document control and filing procedures.
  • Maintenance of parts library, templates and drawing office standards.
  • Coordination of various services in one environment for optimum functionality, cost, buildability, serviceability, and end of life.
  • Understanding of design for manufacture and the production of fabrication/shop drafting methods.
  • Site survey (when applicable)
  • Attend design/planning meetings with client when required.
  • Preparation of accurate project design info to schedule, specification and company standards.
  • Survey of finished solutions for as-built drawings.
  • Participation in process improvement activity.
  • Role Requirements:

    • University or College degree or diploma in mechanical engineering.
    • 3 years of experience in Production or Manufacturing environment.
    • Knowledge of building circulator pumps, building heat exchangers, electrical and building automated system an asset.
    • Experience with Solid Works CAD and AutoCAD a must.
    • Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification an asset.
    • Experience of using ERP system will be an asset Assembly or machine shop experience in the pump-related area is preferred.
    • General understanding of ASHRAE, ASME
    • Knowledge of construction industry standards and codes (OBC, IBC, NSF, NFPA 20 and 13).

    Key Competencies:

    • Strong presentation skills would be an asset.
