Position Overview

Graland Country Day School seeks an intelligent, energetic, flexible and dedicated educator who is interested in working with a lead Lower School teacher to create a nurturing, stimulating and organized classroom environment. A desire to work collaboratively on a team, as well as a desire for personal and professional growth, are essential qualities for this position. The person must be aware of the variation of students’ cognitive, social and emotional needs and capable of responding appropriately to each student as an individual.

Reports to: Associate Head of Lower School

Terms: Full-time, school year, starts August 2024

Primary Responsibilities

The following list is not comprehensive of all tasks of the position, but serves as a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

Classroom

Graland teachers are well versed in their subjects and effectively use different instructional approaches to cultivate student understanding of the subjects.

  • Work with students individually and in small groups per lead teacher’s direction.
  • Work with the lead teacher to plan and direct whole group instruction.
  • Participate in instructional planning and preparation.
  • Assist the lead teacher with assessing student performance.
  • Contribute anecdotal records for reports.
  • Monitor and assist with student classroom behavior.
  • Take over when the lead teacher is out of the classroom (for professional or personal absences).
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher when communicating with parents.
  • Assist in classroom use of various technologies.
  • Accompany students to and from specials and around campus.
Administrative
  • Perform lunch, recess and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain frequent communication with the lead teacher, specialists and staff.
  • Help plan and coordinate class field trips.
  • Participate in all meetings that are held within the school day.
  • Attend parent/teacher/student conferences.
  • Attend division meetings, faculty/staff meetings and professional development meetings that may occur after school dismissal or on a scheduled Professional Development day.

  • Understands the big picture and requires planning for seamless execution.
  • Knowledge of and experience with various tech platforms (Google, Zoom, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Preference is given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and/or candidates that have: a degree or endorsement in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
  • A strong understanding of child development
  • A knowledge of a variety of reading strategies
  • A knowledge of the philosophy and instructional strategies of the writing process
  • Proficient computer skills
Compensation And BenefitsThe annual salary is $47,400 including Graland’s many benefits and perks.
