Scarsdale Middle School Is Seeking Talented, Experienced, And Innovative Candidates For The Position Of Computer Science Teacher Specializing In Coding For The 2024-25 School Year. The Selected Individual Will Provide Classroom Instruction In Computer Science/Coding For The Sixth Grade Students. The Successful Candidate Should Demonstrate That They
  • Understand principles of coding, as well as platforms like Code.org, Scratch and Tynker.
  • Utilize innovative practices to engage students in using technology and learning to code.
  • Experience with physical computing devices such as Micro:bits or Circuit Playgrounds.
  • Design lessons and curriculum that incorporates developmentally appropriate coding concepts while engaging a wide range of learners.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student-centered and project-based learning experiences.
The Scarsdale Middle School faculty understands the unique social/emotional as well as intellectual needs of students in grades 6-8 and offers a rich and varied educational program to our 1100 students. General Overview

Under the supervision of the building Principal and in collaboration with the Director of Instructional Technology, the Computer Teacher supports the use of technology in the Middle School.

  • Teaching
  • Provides direct instruction to students and collaborates with classroom teachers to support the instructional technology expectations outlined in the District Technology Plan.
  • Advocates for new and effective techniques and resources for educational technology and successfully introduces such techniques and resources into the instructional technology program.
  • Collaborates with other computer teachers, technical staff, and administrative technology staff to support the use of technology in his or her building.
  • Serves as a member of committees designated by the building principal.
  • Serves as a resource person to community organizations and individuals on issues related to technology.
  • Maintains cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with colleagues
  • Attends professional development programs supported by the District, including regional Technology Leadership workshops.
  • Attends meetings of the K-12 Technology Committee and other related meetings are required.
  • Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and by attending conferences and workshops
  • Performs such other duties as may be requested by the Director of Instructional Technology and building principal
  • Understand principles of coding, as well as platforms like Scratch and Tynker.
  • Previous experience instructing coding
  • Understand effective technology-based constructivist teaching models, like the Harvard Creative Computing Curriculum
  • Understand instructional technology professional development models, like the SAMR model.
  • Hold, or be eligible for, NY Permanent/Professional Certification for Middle Level (any discipline)
  • NY Educational Technology Specialist certification preferred.
