1937 Election

  • Madras Presidency: The Indian National Congress won the most seats in Madras Presidency, with 63 out of 98 seats. The Justice Party, which represented non-Brahmins, won 25 seats, and the Muslim League won 6 seats. The Congress formed the government in the province with C. Rajagopalachari as the Premier.
  • Bombay Presidency: The Indian National Congress won the most seats in Bombay Presidency, with 95 out of 175 seats. The Muslim League won 27 seats, and the Independent Group, which represented Parsis, Christians, and Anglo-Indians, won 22 seats. The Congress formed the government in the province with B. G. Kher as the Premier.
  • Bengal Province: The Krishak Praja Party won the most seats in Bengal Province, with 36 out of 250 seats. The Indian National Congress won 34 seats, and the Muslim League won 39 seats. No party won a clear majority, and the Krishak Praja Party formed a coalition government with the support of the Congress.
  • Punjab Province: The Unionist Party, which represented the interests of landlords, won the most seats in Punjab Province, with 86 out of 175 seats. The Indian National Congress won 51 seats, and the Shiromani Akali Dal, which represented the Sikhs, won 17 seats. The Unionist Party formed the government in the province with Sikander Hyat Khan as the Premier.
  • United Provinces: The Indian National Congress won the most seats in United Provinces, with 139 out of 228 seats. The Muslim League won 28 seats, and the Independent Group won 22 seats. The Congress formed the government in the province with Govind Ballabh Pant as the Premier.
  • Central Provinces and Berar: The Indian National Congress won the most seats in Central Provinces and Berar, with 51 out of 90 seats. The Muslim League won 3 seats, and the Independent Group won 24 seats. The Congress formed the government in the province with Ravishankar Shukla as the Premier.
  • Orissa Province: The Indian National Congress won the most seats in Orissa Province, with 36 out of 60 seats. The Muslim League won 2 seats, and the Independent Group won 19 seats. The Congress formed the government in the province with Krushna Chandra Gajapati as the Premier.
