Band 3 PET CT Bookings & Reception Officer

Posted on May 15, 2024
Job SummaryThe Birmingham PET Centre is a specialised imaging facility based at the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham Hospital, providing PET-CT scans predominantly under a national NHSE contract to Alliance Medical. The service actively participates in R&D.

The Birmingham PET Centre is a dedicated PET CT department and is the only static PET scanner in Birmingham. The variety of PET CT investigations seen at UHB would not be provided at an average district general hospital.

The Birmingham PET Centre is subject to The National PET Contract under NHS England. The contract demands turnaround times of less than 7 working days from receipt of referral to scheduling, scanning and reporting, with 75% completed within 5 days. If this target is not met, we risk not meeting contract standard. It is imperative that the PET-CT service can meet this target consistently.

We have one of the busiest scanners in the country where shift patters (12 hours) and flexibility is paramount to cover weekends and evenings.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The PET CT Bookings & Reception Officer will act as first point of contact for all service users and patient pathway enquiries to the PET Centre. Ensure they are dealt with in a polite, professional and empathic manner. This may involve patients and service users who may have communication difficulties, or be distressed and/or aggressive.

We are looking for a Full-Time PET-CT Bookings and Reception Officer.

You are enthusiastic and self-motivated and work well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You are a good communicator with knowledge of medical terminology. You are empathic and enjoy contact with patients. You are computer literate and familiar with software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Your main duties will include being the first point of contact for all patients, referrers and other queries relating to PET-CT scanning, with particular responsibility for organising patient appointments, dealing with correspondence and providing general administrative support and organisation of documentation.

Be responsible for non-clinical aspects of the patient's journey. Ensure patient's progress runs smoothly.

You will also help with providing cover for other admin staff within the department eg at lunchtime or during absences.

You will enjoy a challenge and be prepared to develop your role and help improve departmental efficiency with your own new ideas.
