Punchbowl News is a news content company founded by Anna Palmer, Jake Sherman, John Bresnahan and Rachel Schindler focused on power, people and politics in Washington. We are looking for a Manager, Client Engagement, to join our growing team.

Punchbowl News' primary focus is breaking news about power, the nation's political leadership and explaining to our audience of political junkies how Washington works. We produce (at least) three newsletters each day, a daily podcast, dozens of events and more across our growing product suite. Punchbowl News' theory is that power in Washington emanates from the Capitol – and that's the center of our focus.

Our audience includes members of Congress, high-ranking members of the Biden administration, lobbyists, top-level reporters, media executives, Wall Streeters, tech and Hollywood executives and everyday political fans.

About the job:

We are looking for a Manager, Client Engagement to join our advertising and sponsorships team. As an integral member of our growing team, you will manage client relationships, own the sales process, and oversee the execution of sponsorships.

As a Manager of Client Engagement, you will be crucial to growing the advertising side of our business. Punchbowl News is looking for someone with strong relationship management skills, high levels of organization, excellent communication, and a collaborative work ethic to join the team.

Responsibilities:

Manage current and prospective client relationships

  • Create and own relationships with current and prospective clients through events, meetings, calls, and other touchpoints
  • Partner with senior leadership to build new relationships with clients and industries
  • Strategize and build out new partnerships and initiatives for key clients

Manage full business development life cycle for current and prospective clients

  • Lead business development and client engagement for a subset of Punchbowl News’ most valuable clients
  • Pitch the Punchbowl News value proposition to potential advertisers and partners looking to get their brands and messaging in front of DC policymakers and influencers
  • Create proposals and complete RFPs for key clients
  • Create, send, and review contracts for clients

Manage full sponsorship execution for clients

  • Oversee execution of paid media and event partnerships
  • Lead client communications and communicate clearly with team members managing operations to ensure deadlines and client expectations are met

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in sales – business development and/or account management, specifically in digital media or news industry
  • Proven track record of consistently surpassing revenue goals as an individual contributor
  • Expertise in cultivating sales and engaging with existing client relationships
  • Proven ability to develop customer relationships, understand their businesses and develop a shared vision for working with Punchbowl News.
  • Self-starter and willing to work quickly across multiple projects/initiatives at a time
  • Excellent communication skills – to be used over the phone and in person with top executives, including excellent written communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working on a small team in a startup environment
