Job Description

Reporting to the SVP, Marketing & Communication Officer De Beers Jewellers, the Head of Marketing Strategy & Planning, DBJ plays a key global role in collaborating with the De Beers Jewellers senior leadership in HQ and Markets to ensure the delivery of the business objectives.

The role’s focus is to enhance collaboration throughout the organisation and to provide steer to develop and deliver effective and efficient Marketing strategies that will grow awareness for our brand and iconic jewellery collections, while driving traffic to our channels (retail, ecommerce and partners).

With the SVP, DBJ, you will:

  • Define and lead the strategic planning for global and, when applicable, regional Product and Marketing activities (the Business Plan and the 5 year Strategic Plan).
  • Define and lead the deployment of the activation of the brand and of the collection across all marketing channels and ensure its excellence in execution through all markets to maximize brand awareness & ROI, as well as brand image.
  • Define, monitor and report on Return on Marketing Investment.
  • Champion and support alignment across departments
Brand and Business Transformation, Marketing Strategy: Be a catalyst for driving our brand and business transformation across markets and HQ teams, in particular Product, Brand and Commercial; defining marketing spend as an investment with a clear line of sight to business outcomes. Critical to the role’s success will be the ability to influence change, leading coordination and collaboration between marketing teams (responsible product, asset creations, media, pr), commercial (CRM, VM, training) and markets whilst also ensuring alignment.

Business Planning and Governance: lead the Marketing and Communication Strategic Planning across the departments under the leadership of the SVP, DBJ: 3 year strategic plan, FY business plan and revised planning. Ensure alignment with CCO, COO and Market leads to maximise marketing’s contribution to driving delivery of our commercial strategies and investment in marketing covering retail, wholesale, franchise and online.

Marketing Operations: Under the leadership of the SVP, DBJ, drive the end-to-end execution of multi-channel marketing campaigns, including concept development, creative direction, messaging, and media planning.

Investment appraisal and reporting: Global responsibility for supporting the effective allocation of marketing investment across brand and marketing; ensuring its alignment to our strategy and taking a holistic view to advise on where we invest, the appropriate returns to target, measuring success and ongoing budget optimisation by channel, campaign and product category. Global responsibility for reporting on our KPIs.

Brand Guardianship: champion and contribute to protecting the brand's identity and values across all marketing communications, maintaining consistency and authenticity in messaging and imagery.

Cross functional collaboration: Working closely with strategy, procurement, commercial finance and the executives to set appropriate guardrails for investment, strategy and processes ensuring the right business returns for marketing investment.

Ways of working: Governance across brand and marketing teams will be a key component of the role, ensuring ways of working, accountabilities and responsibilities are well defined; setting us up for success and pulling together to deliver our strategy. Brand Officer and more widely across the business; as well as reporting on adherence to agree ways of working and opportunities to enhance these.

Qualifications

  • Experienced within the broader luxury consumer space (jewellery is preferable).
  • Experienced strategic top-down thinker and experienced in applying frameworks and models to structure information, and with ability to deep dive for verification of logic/assumptions.
  • Experienced with Retail and Digital channels
  • Experienced in leading/facilitating situational assessments, root cause analysis, evaluation of strategic options and in business case development.
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Experienced in communicating complex and multi-faceted concepts/ideas to senior stakeholders.
  • Possess a high level of commercial acumen; using data to inform strategic action and management of significant budgets.
  • Deeply analytical and highly numerate; able to engage in depth with Marketing, Commercial Finance, Strategy and Data teams.
  • Open to new trends and understands how technology can deliver competitive advantage.
  • Applies creativity and innovative thinking to produce sustainable solutions.
  • Scans the environment & demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the strategic issues affecting the organisation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Understanding of consumers, particularly Millennials and Gen Z.
  • Manage budget effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proven leader and catalyst of change in an organisation

  • A track record of effectively delivering solutions to the business, including strategic, tactical, project and operational
