Queensland State Archives (QSA) connects Queenslanders with their past—the histories of families, local communities, and the state by looking after the largest documentary heritage collection in Queensland.

QSA has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Reference Archivist to join our team to undertake complex and sensitive archival research.

If you have experience communicating and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, can demonstrate high-level research and analysis skills and can undertake complex searches using archival management systems, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking for a Senior Reference Archivist to join our team in this front-facing role to undertake complex and sensitive archival research in response to internal and external requests.

In this role you will provide complex archival research services to support researchers seeking access to records held at QSA. You will work collaboratively as part of a team, and engage with a range of stakeholders, including QSA colleagues, members of the public and government agencies.

As a Senior Reference Archivist You Will

  • Undertake complex and sensitive research using QSA's archival management system
  • Provide research services to the public and government agencies via telephone, email and onsite in the Reading Room
  • Manage access to records held at QSA in accordance with the Public Records Act 2002, its successor legislation and other relevant legislation
  • Lead and contribute to projects and publications to support the discovery of and access to records in the collection, including finding aids, guides and other resources
  • Develop and maintain archival practices in line with national and international trends and best practice, including the Australian Series System
  • Prepare correspondence and complex reports, including analysis, for internal and external audiences
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and workshops for internal and external audiences
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships, and work collaboratively with, other QSA staff and external stakeholders including government agencies
  • Supervise and train staff, students and volunteers as required
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of services and resources
  • Fulfil all recordkeeping responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation, Information Standards including metadata schemas and associated guidelines
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the Manager, Access Services.
